13U qualifies for state tourney

The Morris 13U baseball team qualified for the state tournament, taking first place at the New Ulm tournament May 31 and June 1. The Morris team was moved up to Class A this year after winning last year's Class B state tournament. Morris lost its first game of the weekend to last year's Class A champions, Waite Park, 2-0. Later in the day Morris defeated Chisago Lakes 9-1 to take second place in their pool. On Sunday Morris started off with a 5-1 win against the first-place team from the other pool, White Bear Lake. Waite Park was defeated by the other No. 2 seed, so Morris faced Litchfield in the championship game. Morris won 4-3 to take first place in the tournament. Both Morris and Litchfield advance to the state tournament which will be held in St. Cloud July 25-27.
