16U girls win Willmar Tournament
The Morris 16U fastpitch softball team won the Willmar tournament on June 8.
The girls started the day with a 10-0 shut out over Willmar in five innings. MacKenzie Weatherly was on the mound and only allowed Willmar one hit, while walking three and striking out eight. Dani Schultz, Mary Rentz, Nicole Gillespie, Kelsey DeCamp, Kayla Evink, and Shadow Olson all recorded hits for Morris. DeCamp's hit was a double.
In game two Morris defeated St. Peter 12-2 in six innings. Hannah Sayles pitched all six allowing two hits and two earned runs, while walking one and striking out three. Eight players recorded hits. Rentz, with two doubles, and Olson had three hits apiece to lead Morris. Gillespie and DeCamp had two hits apiece, including a triple by Gillespie. Schultz, Sarah Kuhn, Sayles, and Evink each had one hit.
In the championship game Morris faced Willmar again and won the tournament with an 8-2 score. Weatherly pitched all seven innings allowing two hits, two earned runs, while walking eight and striking out eight. Schultz led the offense with four hits, all doubles. Gillespie was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Rentz and Olson each had two hits for Morris.
