19 businesses, 3 non-profits hit by storm in Wadena
Wadena Economic Development Director Dean Uselman reported 19 businesses and three non-profit organizations suffered minor to complete damage in the June 17 tornado.
Uselman presented the list to the Wadena City Council, along with a damage assessment on each.
Wadena Hide and Fur, major structural damage
Merickel Lumber, lost five buildings and some inventory, sign, minor damage to main building
Hwy. 10 West Car Wash, major damage to the building
West Side Sports, lost cold storage building and heavy damage to inventory
Wadena Federal Credit Union, displaced with damage unknown
Heartland Tire, lost building, some supplies and inventory
Steffens Distributing, displaced, lost two trucks, damage to coolers, lost substantial inventory
Wadena Inn, major damage to structure, pool area and contents
El Tequila Restaurant shut down until repairs can be made, lost inventory and some contents
Express Central, total loss of 36,000 square feet of sales, warehouse and inventory area
Culligan, major damage to roof and building
Stoneman Oil, lost storage building, perhaps more
Leaf River Ag Service, total loss, multi-million in buildings, equipment and inventory
Mark Stone Construction, minor damage
Johnson Funeral Home, moderate damage
Al Miller Construction, shop, minor damage
Sun Rise Restaurant, moderate damage to roof
Ferrellgas, damage to three buildings
Hunt Seed, lost building and equipment (outside the city)
Wadena Baseball Association, lost all lights and dugouts
Wadena Ag Society, most structures lost, heavy damage to grounds
Wadena Hockey/Community Center, total loss
Uselman said Heartland Tire has purchased the former Domino Ford building on U.S. Highway 10 and will relocate there. He also mentioned Wadena Inn and Grill and El Tequila were looking to rebuild and reopen quickly, possibly as soon as two weeks.
