This past Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, the University of Minnesota, Morris held its 36th annual UMM Jazz Fest at Edson Auditorium on campus.

The performances by UMM Jazz I and II featured two guest artists in Kevin Harris (piano) and Darren Barrett (trumpet).

The West Central All-Stars opened up for the ensembles Friday night and brought the crowd to life with a traditional opening number. The UMM Alumni Jazz started the night off on Saturday.

Jazz II performed a Kevin Harris original “Say What?” before Darren Barrett joined in on the trumpet for “Spring can really hang you up the most”. Both featured artists joined Jazz II in its performance of “Played Twice”.

Jazz I also performed a Kevin Harris original named “Dubois” along with four other numbers, including “Afro Blue” composed by Mongo Santamaria and "Second Race" by Thad Jones.
