All Morris Area qualifiers win medals at state track & field meet
Morris Area's Rachel Moser took second place in the pole vault, while the Tiger boys captured six sixth-place medals and a fifth-place overall finish at the Class A Minnesota State Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday.
After a sunny day for preliminaries Friday at Klas Field on the Hamline University campus, rain fell all day Saturday causing lost seconds in the finals.
Moser, a sophomore, cleared 10 feet, six inches for the silver medal Saturday in the pole vault event. The first place medal went to senior Shannon Stever of La Crescent with a vault of 11 feet, one inch.
The boys earned 29 points ranking fifth of 77 teams with participants. St. Croix Lutheran led all teams with 45 points. Brooklyn Center finished second with 34 and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd was third with 31.
Cody Cannon won two sixth-place medals. The sophomore finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.62. In the preliminaries Friday, he ran a 15.74. Laquone Robinson of Brooklyn Center took first place with a time of 15.20.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Cannon, a sophomore, took sixth place with a time of 42.30. His preliminary time on Friday was 41.36. Robinson also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.15.
Stefan Lemke placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.14. His time on Friday was 2:00.85. The winning time of 1:55.77 was run by Moses Heppner of Warroad.
In the 1600, Lemke also placed sixth with a time of 4:32.17. Heppner's 4:16.17 won the race.
Lincoln Arnold placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.47. His time on Friday was 22.78. Cameron Boy of Jordan won the race with a time of 22.25.
Jackson Henrich took sixth place in the discus throw with a distance of 136 feet. Shawn Johnson of Evelith-Gilbert took first with a throw of 163 feet, six inches.
The 4X400 relay team of Taylor Nohl, Corey Nohl, Matt Wulf, and Arnold took seventh place with a time of 3:32.24. It was a drop from Friday's time of 3:27.79. The winning team from Meadow Creek Christian recorded a time of 3:26.47.
The 4X200 relay team of Taylor Nohl, Corey Nohl, Wulf, and Arnold placed ninth with a time of 1:35.26. The previous day the team qualified with a time of 1:32.45. First place went to the Glencoe-Silver Lake team with a time of 1:30.87.
Taylor Nohl placed ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.02. His preliminary time was 50.99. Nicholas Pfeifle of Southwest Minnesota Christian won the first-place medal with a time of 49.45.
