Area Weather: Drought continues for much of Central Minnesota
It is abnormally dry across a good share of Central and West Central Minnesota. The latest data by the U.S. Drought Monitor Map shows that portions of Stevens, Pope, Grant, Kandiyohi, Swift, and Chippewa Counties are experiencing a moderate drought. Portions of the Eastern Metro are experiencing a severe drought. Across Douglas County it is abnormally dry. Many areas across the state are three to six inches below normal for moisture since the first of the year.
Thankfully, we received some much needed rain on Thursday, but it wasn't as much as we had hoped. There are additional chances for rainfall on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. There is a chance for some good shots of rainfall during that period as well. I know my lawn can use it. By the way, did you know on July 8, 2009 at 4:56 am and 4:56 pm it was 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9? That won't happen again until 3009. Have a great weekend!
