Area Weather: Fall colors beginning to peak
Have you had a chance to check out the fall colors as of yet? Many areas are starting to peak this weekend. Sumac is showing a lot of red this week. Also, the maple trees are starting to show some color as well.
Meanwhile, the DNR is reporting that at Lake Carlos State Park many of the "wildflowers are past peak in color." Across the Morris area there are some great colors! The cool nights have helped speed things along. For where to see the best colors this weekend go to the DNR Web site at www.dnr.state.mn.us/fall_colors/index.html.
By the way, some much needed rain could linger into the weekend.
In 1998 wind gusts to 78 mph were reported at Staples Municipal Airport, just to the north of Staples in Wadena County. In Todd County, trees were blown down in the city of Staples. Buildings were also damaged from the strong winds across Central and West Central Minnesota.
Did you know that 9 out of 10 lightning strike victims survive?
