Area Weather: Temps back into 20s by weekend
Morris Minnesota 607 Pacific Avenue 56267

Another winter storm hit the region from Sunday into Tuesday morning. Heavy snow fell across Minnesota starting late Saturday night. Some areas picked-up a foot of snow by Monday night. I know for many of you had to change your Superbowl Sunday plans as over six inches of snow had already fallen.

Winter Storm Warnings were posted for most of the area. Even on Tuesday, after the snow had wrapped-up, the winds caused some blowing and drifting of snow and it still caused some travel concerns.

If you think we had it rough, however, the East Coast had a "whopper" of a snowstorm as well. Some spots from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. reported more than 30 inches of snow over the weekend.

It has been an interesting winter so far and we still have over a month until spring. Of course, the groundhog didn't see its shadow so according to Punxsutawney Phil that means six more weeks of winter. However, according to the National Climatic Data Center the "rodent" is only 39 percent accurate. We can all hope that spring is just around the corner. The 30 day outlook from NOAA calls for above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Bring on spring!

In 1899 the mercury plummeted to -59 at Leech Lake Dam in Northern Minnesota!

If you think we have had a lot of snow lately, Buffalo, New York received a 39" snowfall in 24 hours in early December 1995. It cost the city nearly $5 million for snow removal.
