Area Weather: Temps to climb next week

Email

It was just a week ago at this time that we were talking about the Vikings big game coming up, and thoughts of a possible Super Bowl trip for Brett Favre and company. Since then, the Vikings lost, we had temperatures in the 30s falling into the single digits and wind chill values at times down to 35 below zero in the region. We have also experienced since then freezing rain and rain last weekend, snow along with winds of 58 mph reported on Monday in the Morris area.

What a difference a few days can make in Minnesota.

Wind chill advisories were still in effect for the area into Thursday morning. The good news is that temperatures should get back into the teens by Monday, and maybe some 20s by Wednesday and Thursday! A system will bring some snow to the state by Monday. It looks like 2" to 3" of snow could fall across Central and West Central Minnesota. In Minnesota, we always have to look for a silver lining. Although the Vikings didn't win the "big one" this year once again, the Twins and their new ballpark will open soon. Target Field and temperatures in April of 50 degrees sounds awfully good right about now! Have a wonderful weekend.

WEATHER HISTORY

In 1977 because of extremely cold temperatures, the St. Paul Winter Carnival was held indoors for the first time!

WEATHER FACTS

If you suffer from dry skin and cracked finger tips, and a scratchy throat when the weather is cold, the chances are good that keeping your house warm is drying out the air. If your house is too dry, you should look into using a humidifier to add moisture.
