Area Weather: Warmth and sun coming Monday
Have you had enough snow for awhile? I know many of my friends and family around the area are getting tired of the snow. I hear the complaints everyday. That goes with being a meteorologist, of course. We are lucky, however, that we aren't living out on the East Coast. Some spots in the East picked up over three feet of snow over last weekend, and now they received another 10" to 20" of snow this week.
For us, the recent snow has made for great cross country skiing and downhill skiing along with snowmobiling.
In 1872 a terrible blizzard hit Central Minnesota. The temperature at Litchfield was 34 degrees on the afternoon of the 12th, and by the morning of the 13th it had fallen to 20 below zero! At least 6 people died in Meeker County alone.
The sunniest place on Earth is the South Pole. However, the reason it's snow-covered is because the snow reflects most of the incoming sunlight that it receives!
