Arland E. Baumgart, 75, of Perham, died suddenly and unexpectedly from cancer on Monday, November 26, 2007, at Tri County Hospital, Wadena.

Arland Elder Baumgart was born the son of Otto and Hedwig (Bahls) Baumgart on March 27, 1932, in Perham. He was in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. On Sept. 19, 1955, Arland married Dorene Manning and together they had seven children. Dorene died in 1999. Arland was employed by Toledo Scales of Little Falls, Minn., Culligan and Dynamic Homes, both in Detroit Lakes, before venturing on his own as a farmer and carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was always busy making or tinkering with something.

Arland is survived by his children, Laura (Rick) Heinle, LaVonne (Jim) Weickert, Susan (Dan) Schroeder and James Baumgart, all of Perham, as well as Jason (Stacy) Baumgart of Bemidji; son-in-law, Dwight Myers of Williston, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Brenda Baumgart of Perham; two brothers, Raymond (Luella) Baumgart of Frazee and LeRoy (Esther) Baumgart of Detroit Lakes; best friend, Vera Nygaard of Perham; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Preceding Arland in death were his parents; wife, Dorene; children, Linda Myers and John Baumgart; brother, Wayne Baumgart; and sister, Gladys Estlick.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continuing one hour prior to funeral services Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham, with the Rev. Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will follow in the Perham Village Cemetery.
