Bean harvest begins, yields vary
The soybean harvest has started in Stevens County. Paul Groneberg of Centrol, Inc. has seen variable yields this season, dependant on moisture variation and soil type. The differences between fields, and within the same field, can be dramatic. In general, the bean yield is lower than farmers would like to see. Groneberg said farmers could use a hard frost, because although the beans are dry, the stems are tough. However, with some corn still maturing, frost wouldn't be a good thing.
