Benson's City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance that would permit golf carts and mini trucks to drive on most roads in the city.

The council began looking into the ordinance after Benson GM dealer Kentt Habben told City Manager Robert Wolfington that he was considering selling mini trucks.

General Motors (GM) is pulling the franchises from hundreds of rural car dealerships, including Swenson Motors, by October of 2010. Habben has looking at alternatives for his business, among them the sale of mini trucks. Wolfington told Habben the city would be open to any suggestions on how it could help his business.
