Benson-Hancock softball teams wins first two
The Benson-Hancock softball team pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of six Paynesville errors to beat the Bulldogs in a West Central South Conference softball game 11-6 in the opener for both teams on April 6.
Natasha Wiebold, Julia Ahrndt and Mallory Jensen had two hits apiece for the Brave Owls. Ahrndt doubled twice while Laura Hoffman tripled and winning pitcher Taylor Semler knocked in two runs.
On Thursday, April 8 the BH team defeated ACGC 17-0. The Brave Owls scored 13 runs in the second inning to shut-out the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City team.
Taylor Semler threw a three-hit shutout and hit a two-run home run in the win. She clubbed her home run to center field in the second inning. She also pitched all five innings, striking out six without issuing a walk.
Kendra Schmidgall had two of Benson-Hancock's 10 hits and scored two runs. Eight other Benson-Hancock players had one hit each. Kelsey Hammerschmidt's double was the only other extra-base hit.
