Beverly F. Nelson age 80 of New London died on Sunday July 6, 2014, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. www.hafh.org
Beverly Fern Nelson was born on August 23, 1933, in Wolverton, Minnesota, the daughter of Myles and Ella (Aamodt) Omdahl. She was baptized at Wild Rice Lutheran Church in Dwight, ND, in October of 1933, and confirmed on June 23, 1946, at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston, MN. Beverly lived in Dwight, ND; Detroit Lakes; Shelly; Halstad; and Fosston, Minnesota as a child. She received her education at Fosston Elementary and went on to graduate as salutatorian of her class in 1951. After high school Beverly went on to Augsburg College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
On August 31, 1957, Beverly was united in marriage to Philip A. Nelson. This union was blessed with three sons. The family made their home in Minneapolis from 1957-58, Columbia Heights from 1958-62, Morris from 1962-67, New London from 1967-1985, Osakis from 1985-93, and Akeley from 1994, until 1998, when they settled back in New London.
Beverly was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Throughout her life she was very active in the Lutheran Women's Organizations at the churches she was a member of. Beverly was also very active in synod, district, and congregational conferences; teaching Sunday school and Bible School; she was a member of various committees, and active in many choirs and bell choirs. Beverly was also a Boy Scout Den Leader for 18 years, president of the Minnesota College Home Economics Association, and a member of Adults Saving Kids.
Beverly F. Nelson died on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at GlenOaks Care Center. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Nancy) Nelson of New London, Peter Nelson of Monticello, and Blair (Connie) Nelson of St. Cloud; 14 grandchildren, Brandon (Nadine) Nelson, Brea (Adam) Braegelman, Tanner, Tayden, Livia, Heather, James, LiAnna, Emma, Sarina, Julia, Koda, Elijah, and Ira Nelson; four great grandchildren, Ella and Bryn Braegelman and Maddex and Daxten Nelson; and a sister, Lorraine (Robert) Marriott of Battleboro, NC.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Phillip in 2005.
