Beverly A. Pillatzke, 75, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes.

Beverly was born to Lacy and Amelia (Tanberg) Greek on Sept. 10, 1933 in Mohall, N.D., where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Mohall High School in 1951. She then attended Bottineau Junior College.

On Sept. 11, 1954 Beverly married James Pillatzke in N.D. They lived in Anamoose, N.D., where Beverly taught country school. In 1959 they moved to Barnesville. Bev went back to college, attending St. Cloud State University and Moorhead State University, and received a degree in Business Education. She taught at the Catholic school in Barnesville for a year, and then worked for Dynamic Industries and Korb Tax Office in Barnesville.

Beverly later owned and operated her own tax and bookkeeping service in Barnesville. She also taught religious education in Barnesville, and later attended St. John's University, where she received her masters' degree in religious education. She taught in Litchfield and Moorhead, Minn., as well as at Holy Rosary School in Detroit Lakes. She retired in 1994.

Following her retirement, Bev worked for Lakeshirts in Detroit Lakes for five years. She was a beloved mother, a spiritual mentor, and a champion of children. She was very dedicated to the service of others. She was a kind, gentle, patient person who accepted people for who they were. She loved the time spent with her family and friends.

Surviving Beverly are her son, Otto (Lori) Pillatzke of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; daughter, Patricia Austin of Shawnee, Kansas; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Hancine) Greek of Camarillo, Calif., and Harold (Sharlene) Greek of Mohall; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Beverly in death were her parents, husband, James (Oct. 4, 1975); and one brother, James Greek.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 13 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at Holy Rosary Church, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Casket bearers will be James Pillatzke, Thomas Pillatzke, Josh Pillatzke, Vanessa Sterner, Whitney Austin and Nicole Houston.
