Blue Devils blank Storm girls
The Morris Benson Area girl’s hockey team had its second-home season debut at the Lee Community Center in Morris on Thursday, Dec 12.
Thursday night marked the third time this season that the Storm faced off against the Blue Devils from Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek. The Blue Devils stayed consistent with their current winning record against the Storm, beating the Storm 5-0 and improving their record to 6-4. The Storm now drops to 1-6 on the season.
There was barely a shot advantage in the matchup, meaning the Storm is improving with each game. The Storm had 23 shots on net, while the Blue Devils ended the game with 24.
In the first, the Blue Devils took their time to find the open looks, not scoring until 6:57 when Abby Ecker passed it to Ashlee Helseth who put the puck past the goalie, putting the Blue Devils on the board 1-0. MacKenzie Christianson found the net to put the Blue Devils up 2-0 with just under three minutes of play left in the first.
No scoring in the second because the Storm had started getting a slight shot advantage at 9-7 in the second period.
In the third, Blue Devil junior Sara Casperson found a hole and scored with the help of Ecker and Zara Einerwold. Helseth scored her second and final goal of the night with just over two minutes to play. At that point, the Blue Devils were up 4-0, but that didn’t stop them from loosening the pressure on the Storm. With just under a minute left in the game, Casperson fired one in for her second goal of the night, sealing the win for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils picked up their sixth win on the season blanking the Storm 5-0.
The Storm is in action next on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Luverne at 5 p.m.
