Have you noticed a new look to the library building? It has had a face lift! The bricks have been tuck-pointed and the outside walls were sandblasted to give it a clean appearance. After 40 years, I guess it's about time. It has served us well over the years and will need to serve us a few more.

The Friends of the Library successfully organized another great book sale. Proceeds were a little more than last year's, more than $2,000. Thanks to all who participated. The Friends are embarking on an ambitious project of updating the technology in the meeting room. The room will be re-wired to accommodate a media projector and a new sound system will be installed.

Our Summer Reading Program was popular with children again this year with almost 500 participants. 29 boys and 55 girls returned reading logs for a free ice cream cone (47 younger kids and 42 older kids). Sharon Ehlers arranged for people in the community to participate in storytime on Thursdays. She and Roxane Malland prepared activities for Lunch Bunch on Wednesdays and Lisa Anderson coordinated the word of the week scramble. We were able to bring in three special events with funding from the Cultural Heritage Legacy funding from the State, the Viking Library System and the Friends of the Morris Public Library. Sponsors for prizes and food included: Common Cup, Dairy Queen, John's Total Entertainment, McDonald's, Morris Community Education, Pamida, Regional Fitness Center, Thrifty White Drug Store, and Willie's SuperValu. Thank you to everyone who participated!

We each have our own idea on what makes a book good reading and library staff gets asked to recommend a good book all the time. Please continue to ask. Providing reader advisory assistance in what we do well. Mary Ann Nelson is particularly adept at knowing people's preferences and alerting you when new titles come in. There are however, a number of sources we provide to help you find book reviews. There are links posted on our website under the tab, 'Reading Suggestions'. "A Few Good Books" links to popular titles for book clubs. There are also reading guides (books) in the library that offer suggestions that you can use while in the library.
