The closing of Minnesota state agencies gave us a scare. During the time the state was shut down we lost a valuable library worker through the Rural Workforce Center's CEP program. Thankfully, Lisa is back with us once again, but it does give one pause. We are not in a position to add staff, but our workload and programming have expanded. If we can't add staff, we need to develop a core volunteer team. Tammy Smith is going to coordinate this endeavor. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, contact us at 320-589-1634.
In honor of our 125th anniversary celebration in August, the Community Band will play in the grassy area in front of the library on Wednesday, August 17th at 7 pm. Popcorn will be served. Join us if you can!
The Friends of the Library annual book sale is over and done. We had many more books this year than last year. Thank you for your donations, thank you for shopping, thank you to the Friends of the Library, thank you to Cheryl Kuhn and her Students of Service, thank you to the City Crew, and many thanks to all of the volunteers who made it happen again this year. The Friends Group has been very supportive of library programming and collections. We benefit greatly from their generosity and support. Consider becoming a Friend of the Library and get involved in your library.
Our Summer Reading Program ended with Book Bingo on Monday. Dozens of people filled the room and everyone left with a prize. Almost 400 children participated this year. In addition to storytime and special guest events, there were guessing jars, word of the day puzzles, Wednesday Lunch Bunch, Friday movies, and of course, books to read.
Our display this month will feature county fair activities and be fun.
