Another year is ending...where does the time go? We have accomplished much this year. From the Viking Library System we now have access to downloadable audio books and e-books. The Friends purchased a tower display case for us to showcase area collections. From an SCIEC / Blandin grant we received six laptop computers for in-library use and we developed a business/ career collection for job searchers (www.morrislibrary.pbworks.com).

We have had a steady influx of volunteers for which we are thankful: Amelia Birkholz, Kelly Carr, Laura Zerr, Lindsay Scott, Minette Johnson, Penny Nemmers and Raelene Reimers. We bid a fond adieu to 125 years of service and now look toward the next 125 years.

Please note on your calendars that the library is closed Monday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Our display case this month showcases the sculpture of Deb Swezey's high school art students. Do you have something you would like to showcase? Schedule a time for the display case by calling the library at 320-589-1634.

Did you know that Atomic Learning Software is available on all library computers? This software provides online training tutorials for how to use a wide variety of computer programs such as Excel spread sheets, Publisher, Word packages and more.

Peter Bremer also offers a Computer Basics class one Saturday a month. December 10 at 9 a.m. is his next class in the library. Please call to register for future classes, if interested - 320-589-1635.

Perhaps a little known collection we have is our paperback exchange books. These are mass market paperback books that have been donated. We do not process them and they do not appear in our catalog, but they are available for you to take home and read and return. Look for this collection on the back wall near our fiction books.

December and January are typically 'slow' months when there is less activity in the library. So, staff will be embarking on an inventory project to account for all of our materials. This will be a learning experience all around as one has not been undertaken in the recent past.

Some interesting donated books we have received recently:

Currier & Ive's America, edited by Colin Simkin

Farm Tractors: the history of the tractor, by Robert N Pripps

History of Watches, by David Thompson

James J Hill's Legacy to Railway Operation, by Earl J Currie

Libraries of Minnesota, photography by Doug Ohman

Life in the U.S. Military: images for reflection & reminiscence for veterans with memory loss, by Dan Koffman

Maroon & Gold Forever: celebrating 125 years of Gopher Football, by Darrell Thompson

Requiem for Steam: the railroad photographs of David Plowden

Stoked: five artists of fire & clay, by Matthew Welch (UMM Pottery Show)

From all of us at the library, Mary Ann, Roxane, Sharon, Tammy, Lisa, and me; we wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy New Year, and Shalom. However you experience the holidays, may they be happy and bright.
