Bookends

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Friends of the Library book sale a success once again. New this year was a silent auction of an older title. It brought in $22.00. The final count has not yet been tallied, but I think we did even better than last year. A book dealer from Paynesville hauled the left-over books out and then the DAC recycled the rest.

The Summer Reading Program is done! We would like to thank all of the area businesses who helped make it a success: Common Cup, Dairy Queen, Johns Total Entertainment, Morris Friends of the Library, Morris Community Education, Pamida, Pizza Hut, Pizza Ranch, Regional Fitness Center, Thrifty White Drug Store, and Willies Super Valu. What a lot of fun it was. We brought in three special entertainers, plus a story time by Mother Goose.

Lunch Bunch was on Wednesdays and this year, Book Bunch read BFG, by Roald Dahl. We had a nice turn-out for the Mad Scientists Club. Thank you to the many volunteers and instructors who made it possible. During four Fridays we showed movies. There were word scrambles, guessing jars, crafts activities and drawing galore to keep the kids busy. Come see all the stars, moons, and clouds on the library walls. Each image represents a completed log of books read by/to a child. There were 466 kids who participated this year with 40 who won books.

We are taking a break from story time in August...our next story time will be Sept. 6.

Ride 'N Read Day at the State Fair is Wednesday, Aug. 29. Bring your Minnesota library card for discounted admission. But in the meantime, see you at the Stevens County Fair!

The library display case for August features a collection of lighthouses that Irene Hagen has collected. If you have something you would like to display, contact the library at (320) 589-1634 for details.

Our online catalog and circulation system will be down for three days, August 14 - 16 for a system upgrade. The library will remain open and you are able to check-out materials, but no items will be checked-in during this time. We appreciate your understanding and patience during the upgrade.

Thanks to the Viking Library System, the library received a bump up in broadband access to five Mbps. Hopefully our computers will run a little faster now.

Gail Hockert is a new library board member, taking over for Ruth Roquitte, who resigned.
