Boy and Girl Scout Fishing Derby in Glenwood Feb 4

The 49th annual Boy and Girl Scout Fishing Derby will take place Saturday, Feb. 4 from noon to 4 p.m. on Lake Minnewaska near the Glenwood swimming beach. The event will include Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Glenwood area Scout units along with friends and merchants from the Glenwood area sponsor this event which attracts Scouts from all around Minnesota and North Dakota.

Each participant will receive a patch, a raffle ticket for prize drawings and can compete for the prizes awarded for the largest two fish in each of six age and gender categories. There will also be a snow sculpture contest, ice golf/putting, ice bowling and frisbee golf out on the lake. About 300 Scouts and leaders are expected to attend.

After an afternoon of fishing and playing on the ice, the Scouts will head to Minnewaska Area High School for a spaghetti dinner provided by the Glenwood Boy Scouts. There will also be a movie, open gym, swimming, scuba diving and games for the many Scouts who will spend the night at the school. In the morning, the Girl Scouts will offer a pancake breakfast at Glenwood Lutheran Church.

The public is invited to both meals. The Spaghetti dinner at Minnewaska Area High School, 25122 State Hwy 28, Glenwood, is from 5-6:30 p.m. The pancake breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church, 206 Minnesota Avenue East, Glenwood. Proceeds from the meals will support local Boy and Girl Scouts.
