"I am running because I believe that together we can rebuild this state and this country," said Dutcher in a statement. "We will create a better environment for jobs and businesses throughout Western Minnesota by encouraging entrepreneurs to invest in our people and our communities."

Dutcher lives in Brandon, Minn. with his wife and two sons. He is a partner at a law firm in Alexandria and serves on the Brandon City Council.

According to his announcement, for the last several months Dutcher has been part of a small group of Republican Party leaders charged with "reforming the Republican Party after the disclosure last fall of previously unreported debts."

Dutcher will be running for the seat left open by Rep. Torrey Westrom, who announced over the weekend that he will be running for the open Senate seat in District 12.

"Representative Torrey Westrom is a role model for any legislator," said Dutcher. "He is diligent, amiable, reliable, and he sticks to his guns. He leaves big shoes to fill."
