Karissa Kuschel recently joined Conway, Deuth and Schmiesing, PLLP as a staff accountant. She joins CDS with over three years of accounting experience. Kuschel previously worked at Cargill as an account specialist. She graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. with a degree in accounting in December 2012, and received her master of accountancy in May 2014. Kuschel resides in Barry, Minn.
Several employees at the West Central Research and Outreach Center have reached notable years of service: Wayne Lesmeister (30 years), Gary Gulbrandson (30 years), Keith Graff (25 years), Tim Rach (35 years) and Ron Erickson (35 years).
Two employees at the West Central Research and Outreach Center, Darin Huot and Mark Smith, received the Research Initiative Award in honor of their outstanding service and collaboration with University of Minnesota research projects. This award is granted by U of MN Research and Outreach Centers, with eight locations throughout the state of Minnesota.
Dr. Jane Johnson is on detail as a visiting scientist with the Office of National Programs – Natural Resources and Sustainable Agricultural Systems. Johnson is a research soil scientist at the North Central Soil Conservation Research Laboratory in Morris. Her research includes measuring management impacts on C-sequestration and greenhouse gas emission including the impact of harvesting biomass for energy on soil quality and productivity with a goal of developing environmentally and economically viable practices. Recently, her research has expanded to include oilseed crop production including root growth and mineral nutrition. While on detail, Johnson will provide soil expertise to national programs and cross-cutting issues.
