Claire LaFave Hutton, age 87, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Morris, died on Friday, Dec. 9, 2009 in Houston. Claire was born May 6, 1922 in Devils Lake, N.D. to Edward J. LaFave and Helena Heusgen LaFave. The family moved to Morris in 1920 where her father worked for and later became president of Citizens Bank. Claire graduated from Morris High School in 1940. She attended The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul but left after one year to go to work for the US State Department and later the War Department. While working in Budapest, Rumania she met her husband Captain Mike Hutton, USAAC. They were married on Dec. 21, 1946 in Paris, France. After raising her children, Claire continued the family tradition of banking and in 1985 retired as Vice President from Charter Bank in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward J. LaFave Sr and Helena LaFave, Morris and her brother Edward J. LaFave, Jr. Morris and Alexandria. She is survived by her husband Mike Hutton of Houston, Texas; daughters Sharon Lekawski, Houston, Texas; Helena Hutton, Alexandria, Va.; and, Lorrie Hutton, Long Beach, Calif.; her son Robbie Hutton and his wife Rebecca, Austin Texas; three grandsons, Jonathan Lekawski, Sydney, Australia, Charles and Michael Peterson, Alexandria, Va.; one brother and his wife, Dr. James and Gail LaFave, St. Paul and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass was held for Claire on Dec. 10, 2009 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Houston; interment was held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
