Comets control paint as Cougars fall

The University of Minnesota Morris womens basketball team fell 83-62 to Mayville State on Friday, Dec. 13. The UMM women are now 2-6 as they near the Holiday break.
The Cougars had 19 points off turnovers, but the Comets were able to control the paint, outscoring UMM 48-22.
Kendra Wycoff led the team with 12 points. Brooke Decker added 11 off the bench. Abby Fragodt had six points and six rebounds.
Mayville State and Minnesota Morris battled back and forth in the first ten minutes of action. Wycoff hit a three pointer to bring UMM within two at
13-11 with 9:55 left in the first half, but the Comets responded with an 11-4 run, taking a 24-15 lead with just under six minutes to play. Morris then cut the lead to five, but could not get any closer the rest of the half. Mayville State shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first half to build up a 42-31 lead at the break.
Fragodt hit a jumper out of the break to cut the lead to under ten but Mayville scored the next eight points once again taking control of the game. Minnesota Morris were unable to get any closer than 15 the rest of the game as the Comets ran away with the victory 83-62.
The Cougars are set to host Valley City State University on Friday, Dec. 20 in the P.E. Center. The tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
