The University of Minnesota, Morris women's basketball team fell to Mayville State 80-56 Friday at home.
The Comets caused 27 Cougar turnovers as they pressured UMM ball handlers all night.
Three Cougars finished in double figures with Emily Auch leading the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds; it was her first double-double of her career. Cori Becker had a career-high 13 points, with 11 in the first half, and Abby Fragodt had 11.
The Comets jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes of action and did not look back. The pressure from the Comets' defense turned into points on the other end. In the first half the Comets outscored UMM 18-6 in points off turnovers as they jumped out to a 45-25 lead. UMM was held to 29.2 percent shooting and the Comets hit 45.2 percent of their shots.
In the second half the Cougars figured out how to break the pressure as they shot 48.0 percent. Auch scored 10 of her points in the second half and Fragodt added nine. The Cougars finished the half 12-of-25 from the field and outscored the Comets 14-4 in points off turnovers.
Mayville scored 42 of their 80 points in the paint.
The Cougars will be back in action Friday as they host Dakota State at 5:30 in their final game before the semester break
