Comments on Sun Tribune on-line stories move to Area Voices
The Morris Sun Tribune has changed the manner in which readers' comments will be posted on the paper's Web site.
As part of a move by all Forum Communications papers, comments related to stories at www.morrissuntribune.com will be moving to this Web site: topics.areavoices.com.
Topics.areavoices.com is a site published by the Sun Tribune's parent company.
Sun Tribune readers will be able to read comments posted at topics.areavoices.com about stories on morrissuntribune.com effective immediately.
Links are attached to all stories on the Sun Tribune Web site that will take readers to Area Voices, where visitors can read the entire story and then add comments. To comment, readers will be required to register.
"There is value in having a constructive debate over news," said Sue Dieter, Sun Tribune Publisher and General Manager. "However, the on-line comments posted regarding local new stories often became mean-spirited and off-topic. This new system will give our commenting community a more robust experience while shielding comments from those who'd rather not take part or be exposed to them."
Through the enhanced comments section, readers will have the opportunity to play a role in moderating the tone of comments posted. All readers will be able to vote on any specific comment. Comments receiving negative ratings below a certain level will be hidden or removed.
Readers will be able to report inappropriate comments or perceived violations, and reports will be reviewed by a system moderators. The moderators also will review comments on topics.areavoices.com and readers who continue to violate rules on commentary could lose priviledges.
The rules are:
Comment only on the story at hand, not others on the Web site or other unrelated issues.
Comment civily and respectfully.
Do not post comments containing profane, vulgar, racist, sexist or other inappropriate language.
