The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team fell behind host Northland by double digits late in the first half and never recovered, losing 82-66 Jan. 27 on the road in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

Each team led once in the first half, with the LumberJacks taking over for good with 9:42 left after a pair of free throws. Northland eventually extended their lead to as much as 14 in the first half, before taking a 35-22 lead into the break.

In the second, they continued to grow their advantage, never letting Morris within single digits.

The Cougars were led by Derek Schmidt with 17 points, extending his streak of consecutive games in double figures to 14.

Jeremy Burns and Brodie Raymond each finished with 10, accounting for two-thirds of the Cougars' just six three-pointers. UMM had a rough night from behind the arc, hitting only 6-of-21 attempts for a 27 percent average.

The Cougars struggled from all parts of the floor as well, finishing with one of their lesser shooting performances of the season, going 22-of-63 (.349).

With the loss the Cougars fall to 3-3 in UMAC action and 6-10 overall.
