Cougar men fall at St. Scholastica

The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team fell to St. Scholastica 74-66 in the semi-finals of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Thursday in Duluth.

The Saints advanced to the championship game, where they won the title over Bethany Lutheran 66-61.

The Cougars fell behind early, taking a 43-22 deficit into the locker room at halftime.

At one point in the second half the Saints opened up a 28-point lead with just under 10 minutes remaining, but the Cougars clawed their way back into the game and made up 20 of those points.

Despite shooting at 43.5 percent in the first half, the Cougars only took 23 shots compared to 34 for the Saints, who were hitting 47 percent.

In the second half the Cougars improved to 50 percent from the field, while the Saints dropped to 34.8 percent shooting.

The Saints' advantage was at the free-throw line, where they were 20-of-22, hitting 15 in the second half.

The Cougars were only 5-of-6 overall at the line.

Daniel Fragodt ended the game with 28 points, seven rebounds, and four steals to lead the team in all categories.

Jeremy Bosch added 10 points and four rebounds.

Mitch Primus had nine points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Also scoring for the Cougars were John Hammer with eight, Kendall Proell with six, Clay Fischer with three, and Zach Meyer with two.
