The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team fell to Valley City State 78-67 on Friday.
The Vikings shot 51.9 percent and hit nine three pointers in the win.
R.J. Dean had a team high 12 points for the Cougars as the team was very balanced on the score sheet. Seven players had at least five points.
The Cougars hit nearly 44 percent of their shots, but struggled from the foul line hitting just 7-of-17 from the stripe.
The Vikings, on the other hand, were 13-of-16 from the stripe. Three Vikings had at least 10 points, which helped them overcome 16 turnovers.
UMM out-rebounded the Vikings 11-6 on the offensive boards, but could not overcome.
Dean finished the game 4-of-9 from the field and 2-of-5 from beyond the three-point line. Steve Birman had eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Tyler Pendleton and Jordan Gieske each had nine points off the bench for the Cougars, as well.
Morris will be back in action Tuesday night as they take on Crown at 7:30 p.m. in the Cougars' UMAC opener
