Cougar men finish first lap through UMAC schedule
The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team was outshot by host St. Scholastica Jan. 28, falling 77-64 on the road in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
St. Scholastica shot 57 percent (29-of-51) from the field, including 44 percent (7-of-16) from three-point range, leading Morris in each category.
The Cougars finished shooting 43 percent (22-of-51) from the field, with a mere 23 percent (3-of-13) from behind the arc.
Despite that, the Cougars were able to overcome a 36-28 halftime deficit, and take a 49-48 lead midway through the second half. Logan Orazem hit a big three-pointer at the 11:22 mark to give the Cougars a one-point advantage, their only lead of the half.
The Saints answered right back with the go-ahead bucket at the 11:05 mark and led the rest of the way out.
Brendon Foss led the Cougars with 20 points - the second best game of his career - going 8-of-12 from the floor.
Derek Schmidt added 10 points, while Ben Hoidal was right behind with nine.
The Saints were led by Jonah Dahlman with 32 points, the most by a single player against the Cougars this season.
With the first trip through the conference schedule complete, the Cougars sit a game below the .500 mark, and have seven games left to secure a UMAC Tournament berth
