Cougar Invite

The University of Minnesota, Morris hosted the annual Cougar Invite Friday, Sept. 24, and posted the top six finishers en route to a 330, taking top honors.

Originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23, wet weather in the area forced the tournament back one day, which reduced the original field of seven teams down to two, as prior obligations forced much of the field out of competition.

Upper Midwest Athletic Conference rival Presentation was still able to make the trip, and faced off with the Cougars at the Benson Country Club. On a day that began cool and windy with overcast skies, the Cougars shot a 42-over, 330, and bested the Saints by over 60 strokes, who finished with a 103-over 391.

Dionne continued his strong play on the season, and finished just one-over at 73 to cruise to medalist honors. Dionne was 10 strokes ahead of his nearest competition, as teammate Bendel came in second with an 11-over 83.

In all, the Cougars laid claim to the top six spots in the final standings, including a pair of players tied for third with matching 84s in Anderson and Michel.

Kelly placed fifth with an 89, and Pelletier was sixth with a 91 to round out the Cougars on the leader board.

Presentation was led by Michael Babcock in seventh place with a 22-over 94.
