Cougar men run to third-place UMAC finish
The College of Saint Scholastica men made it four straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Flandreau State Park in New Ulm.
The Saints finished with a team score of 37 and had four runners place in the top seven overall. Chris Lawson, who finished in second place overall with time of 27:06 was the first of the St. Scholastica runners to cross the finish line. Lawson was followed by teammates Ethan Schubert and Charlie Habermann who came in third and fourth overall with times of 27:32 and 27:41, respectively, and Ben Carlson who finished in seventh place with a time of 28:10. All four runners earned All-Conference honors for placing in the top 12, an accolade Schubert also earned in 2011.
Adam Zias of Northland College crossed the finish line 44 seconds before the first St. Scholastica runner with a time of 26:22 and was named the UMAC Men's Individual Cross Country Champion for the second consecutive year while leading his team to a second place finish overall. The Lumberjacks finished with a total team score of 62 and placed three runners on the All-Conference list with Michael Sinclair and Joe Zant joining Zias.
The University of Minnesota, Morris finished in third place with a team score of 88, while Martin Luther College came in fourth with 110 points. Northwestern College placed fifth followed by Crown College, Bethany Lutheran College and North Central University who placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
