Cougar men shut out Northwestern to move into 2nd place
MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota, Morris scored a 3-0 win over the Northwestern Eagles on Friday to move into second place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Devin Chuba almost got the scoring started in the fourth minute as his shot hit the post and went just wide of the net.
Twenty minutes later it was Matthew Bennis who put UMM on top. Bennis got the ball back from Matt Vik just inside the box, then turned and fired a shot off the crossbar and in.
The match went into halftime with the Cougars holding the 1-0 lead and looking at three points in the table.
Minnesota Morris put the match away with two second-half goals. First in the 71st minute it was Ravi Butler picking up his first goal as a Cougar fighting for the ball in the box after getting a pass from Vik and putting it past the keeper.
Chuba scored his first goal of the year in the 88th minute to put UMM up 3-0. Chuba headed a driving cross from Vik to give the Cougars the victory
