UMM Sports Information
The University of Minnesota, Morris softball (4-4) split on its third day in Florida to stay .500 on the year. The day started with a 17-3 rout of Wentworth before a tough 1-0 loss to Saint Joseph's ended the day.
UM-Morris 17, Wentworth 3
Though Wentworth got on the board first, the Cougars rallied in the bottom of the first, taking a 13-1 lead into the second and sealing the deal early for the Cougars.
Cassie Sowada was 3-4 with two RBIs and scored every time she got on base. Marisa Kroells batted in two with her only hit of the afternoon and ended the game with game high four RBIs.
Sam Hanson was credited for the win, allowing one hit and one run in three innings pitched.
Saint Joseph's 1, UM-Morris 0
Pitching was the story of game two as the Cougars and Saint Joseph's couldn't muster much offense. The two teams had chances to score, having a player reach base in each of the first four innings. Unfortunately, for the Cougars they could not find a way to score. They left a runner on third in the second and third innings.
After failing to have a runner reach base in the top of the fifth, Saint Joseph's had the momentum and took advantage. They picked up a leadoff single and a one out error, threatening to break the tie. Mackenzie Weatherly was able to induce a fly ball out, however it was deep enough to allow the runner to score from third. It was the lone run in the game and the Cougars weren't able to respond in their final two at bats.
The spring trip will wrap up today as the Cougars take on Wartburg College and Eastern Nazarene.
