Cougar winning streak comes to an end with 1-3 tournament showing
A streak of eight straight wins came to an end as the University of Minnesota, Morris volleyball team dropped three of four matches at the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Wisconsin-La Crosse ended the Cougars’ winning streak Friday with a sweep, 29-27, 25-19, 29-27.
Abby Tietz led the way with 13 kills with La Crosse. Wisconsin-La Crosse hit .232 and had three players with 10 plus kills. Kaylie Clark finished with 23 digs.
In the second match Wisconsin-Stevens Point defeated the Cougars in four sets, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19.
Tietz led the offense with 18 kills while hitting .333. Auch was not too far behind her with 14 kills, while hitting .324. Mandy Allman and Brooke Decker combined for 54 assists. Clark had 24 digs to pace the defense, but Stevens Point hit .228 in the win.
On Saturday the Cougars picked up a 3-0 sweep over Wisconsin-Stout, 28-26, 26-24, 25-21, avenging a five-set loss to them earlier in the year. Tietz had nine kills, leading the offense. Alyssa Haugen added eight and Hannah Knott had seven. Morris held Stout to just .185 hitting. Jennifer LaRoque had a solo block and six block assists in the win. Clark and Tietz each had 13 digs defensively.
In the afternoon match, River Falls swept the Cougars 27-25, 25-23, 25-11.
Knott led the way with nine kills, while hitting .333. Decker and Allman ran the offense combining for 26 assists. Decker had 14 assists and Allman had 12. Clark had 12 digs. LaRoque had three block assists.
