Emily Mehr tied her career high on Tuesday with 35 points as the University of Minnesota, Morris defeated the Trinity Bible Lions 61-57.
Mehr added 10 rebounds to complete a double-double game.
Abby Fragodt tied her career high in rebounds with 17.
Morris overcame 23 turnovers as they held the Lions to just 29-percent shooting in the second half.
Mehr came out on fire scoring the first 10 points for the Cougars and UMM took a 12-5 lead in the opening four minutes of action. Trinity battled back over the next six minutes to take a 24-22 lead. Mehr hit a layup to tie the game at 24, but the Lions scored the next six points to take a 30-24 lead, their largest of the game. Minnesota Morris ended the half on a 6-2 run and trailed by just two at 32-30.
Kayla Kramer hit a three pointer in the opening minute of the second half as the Cougars took the 33-32 lead. The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the game as neither team held a lead bigger than five points.
Trailing by one Kendra Wycoff hit a layup followed by a jumper to give Morris a three-point lead. Trinity took the lead back three minutes later, but the Cougars responded and held a 46-43 lead with nine minutes left in the game.
The Lions tried to pull away with five minutes left in the game, taking a 55-50 lead. Mehr hit four straight free throws followed by a layup from Wycoff and Kelsey Erickson hit a pair of free throws as the Cougars capped off an 8-0 run, taking a 58-55 lead with 2:36 left.
Trinity pulled within one, but the Cougar defense held up and kept the Lions off the board in the final two minutes to hold on for the 61-57 win.
Minnesota Morris will head out on the road this weekend to take on Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran on Friday and Saturday
