Cougar women drop home game in overtime

Despite a single-game record tying performance by senior Tynell Kocer, the University of Minnesota, Morris dropped an 84-82 overtime game to the University of Sioux Falls Saturday in non-conference women's basketball at the P.E. Center.

The Cougars trailed 40-32 at the half and outscored the USF Cougars 38-30 in the second half to force an overtime session.

Kocer tied a single-game record for free-throw percentage in a game at 100 percent (10-10) and finished two points shy of tying her career high of 32. She was 8-of-21 (38 percent) from the field and 4-of-11 (36 percent) behind the arc to go along with her perfect effort at the line.

Kocer now has 974 points in her career, just 26 away from becoming the 17th player in Cougar women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Kocer would become the third women's basketball player in the past four seasons to hit that career milestone.

Alaina Benson accomplished the feat last year and finished with 1,063 points (14th all-time). Malina Berglund did it in the 2005-06 season, her senior year, and is currently tied for eighth all-time with 1,184 career points.

Kocer is currently averaging 19 points per game, and at that pace, could finish in the top five on the women's all-time scoring list.

While Kocer led the Cougars Saturday with 30 points, all eight of the other players were in the scoring column.

Coresa Leighty added 12 points and was 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.

Jenni Noordmans added 10 points, along with six assists and five steals.

Steph Roggenbuck and Nikki Washek had eight points apiece. Roggenbuck led the Cougars with 10 rebounds.

Jamie Rainey had five points and six assists.

Kara Norris added four points.

Joy Heysse had three points to go along with eight rebounds.

Diane Blommel had two points.
