Cougar women extend winning streak to 8
The University of Minnesota, Morris women's soccer team defeated the Knights of Martin Luther 1-0 Saturday at Cougar Field.
The lone goal came from Rachael Berns at the 19th minute as she got her seventh goal of the year. Berns is third on the team in goals scored. The goal came off of a corner kick by Ally Heida as Carly Denler gathered and assisted the ball to Berns. This is Denler's third assist on the year which is tied for fourth on the team.
The goalkeeper, Morgan Delaney, got her seventh start. She had four saves and now has 28 saves this season. This was her third shutout and moved her record to 3-3.
This is the eighth straight shutout for the Cougars. They have outscored their opponents 37-0 in that span.
It was a hard fought game as the Cougars had twelve fouls to the Knights’ one. The women maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the game and showed to be more physical throughout the contest.
The Cougars move to 9-3 on the season and 8-1 in the UMAC. They will return to action on Friday as they head to St. Scholastica to take on the Saints. These two teams met earlier this year as the Saints defeated the Cougars 1-0 in Morris.
