A six-point halftime lead was not enough Jan. 28, as the University of Minnesota, Morris women's basketball team fell 66-62 on the road to St. Scholastica in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.

Morris saw a 27-21 halftime lead slip away during the second half, but still led 57-53 with 1:20 left in the game. However, the Saints scored the game's last two baskets, including the game-tying field goal with just three seconds left to send it to overtime.

In the extra session, the Cougars only managed one field goal, and were outscored 9-5, suffering their second loss in conference play.

The two-time defending UMAC champion Cougars now sit with multiple losses in league play for the first time since the 2008-09 season, after going 13-1 and 14-0 the last two years, respectively.

Emily Mehr led the Cougars with 19 points, running her current stretch to six straight games with at least 18. Joining her in double figures was Jenni Noordmans with 15, while Alyssa Silva and Kendra Wycoff each added nine points.

Abby Fragodt continued to dominate on the boards, pulling down 10 for the second straight game and fourth time on the season, while Kelsey Erickson was equally impressive with eight.

The Cougar defense limited the Saints' offensive leader to just 12 points, but St. Scholastica got plenty of balance with six different players contributing at least five points.

With the first tour through the UMAC schedule through, the Cougars find themselves in an unfamiliar position with two losses, but remain in second, two games behind leader Martin Luther who is still unbeaten.
