The 2008-09 basketball season is already well underway for the University of Minnesota, Morris women. The Cougars started with a pair of non-conference games at Crookston Saturday and at home against Jamestown Tuesday.
The Cougars dropped their season-opener Saturday with a high-scoring 91-75 loss at Crookston.
Overall, the Cougars finished the game shooting at 35 percent.
Tynell Kocer led the Cougars with 15 points.
Freshman Jenni Noordmans chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Nikki Washek had 11 points.
Coresa Leighty and Diane Blommel had eight points apiece. Leighty was 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and grabbed seven rebounds.
Steph Roggenbuch led the Cougars with eight rebounds and added seven points.
Rounding out the scoring were Kara Norris with six, Joy Heysse and Jamie Rainey with three apiece, and Kaila Lindsey with two.
The Cougars hosted Jamestown Tuesday and fell to 0-2 on the season with a 74-64 loss.
After hitting 10 three-pointers in the season opener, the Cougars were 0-5 against Jamestown. Overall they were shooting at 45.9 percent.
Roggenbuck led the team with 16 points.
Kocer had 13 points, along with six rebounds.
Washek added 10 points for the Cougars.
Leighty had eight points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Norris also had eight points.
Also scoring were Noordmans with four, Rainey and Blommel with two each, and Heysse with one.
