Cougar women's tennis picked fourth
The University of Minnesota, Morris women's tennis team has been picked fourth by the league coaches in the annual Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) preseason poll.
The Cougars claimed 13 points in the poll, just three behind third-place Martin Luther with 16. Defending champion St. Scholastica took home 24 points on the strength of four first-place votes to finish two ahead of Northwestern in second with 22.
Bethany Lutheran with nine points and North Central with six, in fifth and sixth place respectively, rounded out the poll.
Coming off their best season in recent history, the Minnesota Morris women's tennis team will lean on Abby Fragodt this season as they look to continue the trend. Fragodt returns for her sophomore season after finishing her freshman season in the championship match of the UMAC Tournament, ending in second place.
Fragodt led a team that went 4-8 overall last season, including 4-6 in the UMAC, setting a program record for conference wins while placing fourth. Preya Chunkapura also returns for her senior season, after going 5-5 in dual meets while playing No. 2 and No. 3 singles all season.
The Cougars opened their season with a close loss to Division II Minnesota Crookston, and return to action on March 31 on the road at Simpson.
