Cougars earn UMAC honors
The University of Minnesota, Morris baseball team had three players earn all-conference accolades. Junior Dan Folie (Fridley) was selected first-team all-conference. Seniors Nick Hervin (Cold Spring) and Greg Roth (Cold Spring) were named honorable mention in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Folie finished the season with a .433 batting average to lead the Cougars. He also led the team with 45 hits. Folie had 25 runs batted in and 26 runs scored for the year with 28 hits and 10 runs batted in for the Cougars in 22 games. The regular third baseman for the Cougars, Folie had 55 assists.
Hervin was second on the team in hitting with a .418 average for the year with 38 hits and 12 RBI. He scored 31 runs. He led the team with five stolen bases. He also led the Cougars with 65 assists at short stop.
Roth was third on the team with a .394 hitting average. He had 39 hits and 23 RBI, along with scoring 24 runs. As a pitcher, Roth had a 5.83 earned run average.
Kirby Marquart was in the top five in most categories. He had a .390 batting average, with 30 hits, and 14 runs scored. Marquart led the Cougars with 27 RBI. He also led the team in put outs with 165.
The Cougars finished the 2008 season 10-23 overall and 5-12 in the UMAC.
