Cougars fall to Northern State U

The University of Minnesota, Morris women’s swim and dive team took a loss to Northern State University 122-113 on Friday, Nov. 15.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the UMM team of Jessica Fischer, Andelee Quast, Hanna Gasaway, and Sarah Dens took second with a time of 2:02.45.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Kayla Kranitz (12:17.31) and Jillian Burns (12:24.63) took second and third, respectively.
Kayla Gastecki (2:09.49), Tori Brua (2:10.42), and Kennedy Erdmann (2:11.72) rounded out top five, placing third, fourth and fifth, in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Cougars took the top first and second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle event. Kaitlin Kamm (25.26) took first, while Natalie Reynen (26.74) came in second.
Gasaway (5:19.01), Quast (5:19.85), and Sam Salathe (5:24.34) round out the top five in the 400-yard IM event.
Carissa Fuller took the gold in one-meter diving with a solid 183.
Morris coming up short with a second and third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Kranitz (2:35.10) and Jessica Fischer (2:37.07) were the swimmers in the event.
A third and fourth place finish by Dens and Reynen ended the 100-yard freestyle. Dens finished with a time of 58.42. Reynen finished with a 58.54 in the event.
In the 200-yard backstroke, four out of five players in the top five were UMM swimmers. Northern State swimmer Amanda Taylor took first with a 2:20.55. Kamm placed second for the Cougars with a 2:22.26. Gastecki (2:28.36), Tia Volkers (2:31.06), and Abby Donnay (2:40.88) rounded out the top five in the event.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Brua finished with a 6:02.06, good for fourth place. Salathe (6:04.23) and Gasaway (6:07.71) took fifth and sixth.
Fuller took first in three-meter diving as well, finishing with a 206.55.
Gastecki took a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, just milliseconds in front of NSU swimmer Eliza Jacobs. Gastecki finished with a 2:38.68.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Cougars took another first place victory. The team of Dens (26.80), Brua (26.33), Reynen (25.44), and Kamm (24.94) combined times for a 1:43.51.
The Cougars next swim and dive meet will be in Moorhead against Concordia on Dec. 7.
