Just a single point was the difference Friday, as the University of Minnesota, Morris swimming and diving team fell 121-120 to host Concordia-Moorhead in the Cougars' final dual meet before the semester break.

The Cougars had the lead heading into the final heat of the day, and a win in the 400-yard freestyle would have clinched it. Swimming one of their best races of the season, Sarah Dens, Jackie Hanson, Melissa Johnson, and Jessica Fischer were just edged by the Cobbers who won the race with a 4:00.50, with the Cougars about an inch behind touching the wall at 4:00.78.

"The team swam great," head coach Dave Molesworth said. "We had lifetime bests and season highs, and to be just a point away from a MIAC team that has been around for that many years, I'm really excited heading into the semester break."

The Cougars opened the meet with wins in the first three, including Johnson, Andelee Quast, Kayla Gastecki, and Natalie Reynen teaming up for a 2:00.73 to cruise to a win in the 200-yard medley relay, beating the Cobbers by 11 seconds.

Fisher then won the 1650-yard free style with a 20:16.51, and Dens and Hanson took the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:13.53 and 2:14.61, respectively.

The Cougars actually won nine of the 13 total events in the meet, with the Cobbers making up points with the lower finishes.

Gasktecki won the 200-yard IM with a 2:24.73 and Fisher added her second victory of the day with a 1:08.28 in the 100-yard fly. Dens also won for a second time with her 2:13.53 in the 200-yard free, while Jonhson and Hanson made it a Cougar sweep at the top in the 100-yard back with their 1:08.33 and 1:09.75, respectively.

Rounding out the winners was Gastecki for the second time with a 5:46.32 in the 500-yard freestyle and Quast in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:13.86.

The Cougars will now get a nice long break from competition, returning to action on Jan. 13 back in Moorhead to take on MSU Moorhead at 6:00 p.m.
