Cougars fall in rubber match

Northwestern earned the series win over the the University of Minnesota, Morris (7-9, 4-2 UMAC) with a 12-4 win on Saturday afternoon. Morris scored three first inning runs, but the Eagles responded right back with seven runs in the bottom of the first.
Minnesota Morris rallied for three runs with two outs in the top of the first to take an early lead. Donnie Mavencamp, Kyle Grote and Scott Peterson had RBI's in the inning all via the walk. The Cougars drew five walks and had one batter hit by pitch in the inning. The Eagles came to the plate next and put together an inning that featured six hits and seven runs, chasing starter Joey Hyde after ten batters.
The Cougars got a run back in the top of the third but were unable to get any closer. Northwestern ended up tacking on three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, putting the game away.
On Monday, Morris returns to Cougar field for a doubleheader against Finlandia at 1 p.m. The Cougars swept Finlandia in a doubleheader on March 11 in Florida.
