Cougars fall to Vikings
The University of Minnesota, Morris women's basketball team returned to the courts Tuesday falling to Valley City State University 73-56.
This weekend the Cougars host Northland and St. Scholastica in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.
The Vikings took the lead early and never looked back, taking a 45-28 advantage into the break and leading by as many as 25 points in the second half.
The Cougars had steady shooting throughout the game, scoring 28 points in each half hitting an average of 39.4 percent (21-53) of field goals and 23.5 percent from three-point range.
The Vikings were shooting field goals at 47.2 percent (17-36) in the first half, but only hit nine of 30 (30 percent) in the second half. From three-point range the Vikings were 4-of-18.
Coresa Leighty led the Cougars with 15 points. Steph Roggenbuck and Tynell Kocer added 10 apiece.
Diane Blommel had nine points, Nikki Washek had eight, and Kara Norris and Joy Heysee each added two.
Roggenbuck led the Cougars with six rebounds.
Jamie Rainey and Washek were both credited with six assists.
Washek also recorded five steals.
