Cougars go 1-3 at UW-Stout

The University of Minnesota, Morris participated in the University of Wisconsin - Stout volleyball tournament last weekend at Menomonie, Wisc.

The Cougars finished the tournament 1-3 with Briana Czer being named to the all-tournament team.

Luther College 3

UM-Morris 0

Luther College defeated the Cougars in three (25-18, 25-14, 25-16) in the first game of the tournament for UMM.

Senior Allison Pippo had a team-high 10 kills for the Cougars.

Sophomore Sam Pfannenstein led the Cougars with 14 assists. She also recorded eight digs.

Senior Briana Czer added led with 10 digs and recorded eight kills.

Colleen Hermes also had eight digs for the Cougars.

UM-Morris 3

UW-Stout 2

In the Cougars' second game of the tournament, UMM won the fifth and deciding game 15-9 to defeat the host Blue Devils 3-2. Set scores were 25-23, 12-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-9.

Pippo and Czer led the Cougar offense attack in the win. Pippo had a season-high 12 kills. Czer added 10 kills.

Pfannenstein had a season high 27 assists and freshman Natalie Thomas chipped in with 10 assists.

Freshman Tanya Marthaler had a season-high 21 digs and Hermes added 17 for the Cougars.

Viterbo 3

UM-Morris 0

Viterbo University defeated UMM in the Cougars' third game of the tournament on Saturday in three straight by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.

Pfannenstein had 17 assists for UMM. Czer led the team with eight kills. Marthaler led in digs with nine, while Pfannenstein and Hermes added eight apiece.

UW-Stevens Point 3

UM-Morris 1

In their final match of the tournament, the Cougars lost to the University of Wisconsin -Stevens Point 3-1 (22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-25).

After falling behind two sets to none, UMM rallied for a 25-23 win over the Pointers. Stevens Point came back to win the fourth set and the match.

Czer led the offense with 10 kills for UMM. Pippo recorded eight.

Setters Pfannenstein and Thomas recorded their first double-doubles of the season. Pfannenstein had 15 digs and 14 assists, while Thomas had 13 digs and 12 assists.

Hermes had a team-high 25 digs and Marthaler added 11.
