Cougars impress at LAC

The University of Minnesota, Morris swimming and diving team finished in third place in the Liberal Arts Championships on Saturday, matching the school's best finish. They went into the day in fourth place, six points behind Loras College but erased the deficit early. They would go on to earn 418 points, 33 points better than their 2013 finish.

The night started with the longest race of the meet, the 1650y free. Jillian Burns finished 13th, the best of three Cougars in the race, with a time of 19:31.04. Tori Brua was 15th and Jessica Fischer finished 17th. In the 200y backstroke Tia Volkers led the way with an 11th place finish, two spots ahead of teammate Sam Salathe. Abby Donnay took 15th in the same race.

Kaitlin Kamm took second 100y free, just a half second behind the first place finisher. Courtney Kahnk finished 10th and Sarah Dens was 14th in the "B Final" of the 100y free. In the 200y breaststroke Kayla Gastecki took sixth in the "A Final". Her teammate Tasha Miller was 10th in the "B Final".

In the final solo race of day Kayla Kranitz took tenth in 200y butterfly. Teammates Jessica Fischer and Hanna Gasaway took 11th and 12th respectively. The 400y free relay team finished off the meet with a third place finish thanks to the efforts of Kahnk, Natalie Reynen, Dens and Kamm. They clocked in with a time of 3:41.01.
